With collywobbles we write the following words to our readers. And what we have to say hurts quite a bit. The reason is, that we just compared the sub-ordinate targets of the campaign “pig-vision”, which we intended to reach, with the actual results. The outcome is disillusioning and disappointing: reduced numbers of access and decreasing activity on most social-networks, where pig-vision is represented. It seems, as if there are clearly less people interested in the fate of the two piglets Jackpot and X15, than we expected. For us, this is a moment to act: to be precise, we think about closing the campaign. In this case the scheduled resources of time and money just would be used for other projects.

But there is still a chance and so we set ourselves a time limit of 4 weeks to discuss with you, how pig-vision could and should continue. At this low level, at which the campaign runs at the moment, we cannot continue. So, if you want the campaign to be continued in this form, here our deep call to you: spread information about the campaign once again as far as you can on the internet. Invite people, who might be interested in the story, to visit the website or to become a member of one of the groups. Forward pictures and videos to people, who – from your point of view – should be engaged in this issue already. Use pig-vision as a tool, to change the world a little bit. Only then quotes of access will increase and thus the probability, that we still can save this campaign.
We are curious about your proposals and happy about your help.

Hello, I’m Antonella. For those of you who don’t know: Doris and Harald are under the impression that they are the bosses round here. The pigs think they are (the real pigs, not Doris and Harald!) and even Bruno the donkey sees himself as boss. But it’s not true, any of it: I’m the boss round here!Someone’s just asked me to say a few words about Jackpot, and as I don’t have any pressing engagements right now, it would be my pleasure.

Well, everybody knows the story, and I must say, that little piglet is coming along just fine: bigger, heavier and even nosier than he already was. When he’s out and about (that’s right, I know what’s going on outside as well) you hardly see him because when he’s digging around all that shows is his behind. Let me tell you, that for a cat, that’s not very pleasant, but that’s what pigs are like. He only really comes inside when it’s raining or, of course, to sleep. It’s very amusing to see him curled up in his dog basket with his tartan blanket. Not at all pig-like actually – I hope he doesn’t start barking. At least until now he’s only been grunting, especially when he’s with the other pigs.

Jackpot isn’t allowed to run around where ever he wants yet. Harald says that even though the others like him, there’s the danger that one of them could accidentally step on his paw, excuse me…trotter, and some of them weigh around 300 kg! And the tusks on those boars! If they turned around without looking and Jackpot was in the way, then it would be Jackpot at the vets and Harald and Doris with a nervous breakdown. That’s why, for the moment at least, he’s only allowed to be with the other pigs under supervision. And that’s a sight to see, Jackpot’s eyes nearly pop out of his little head, he sniffs them, climbs around on them, licks them, looks in their ears and even nibbles on them, and they in turn let him! That’s because I brought them up well, I tell you!

What

As I was doing my inspections last week, Foxy and the wolf were mucking out his box – you should have been there to see it! Running around like mad he was, as Wolf pushed the wheelbarrow and then showing Foxy where to clean next. When she didn’t immediately look, he would shove her with his snout. He takes great care to see that his staff are well trained – he’s learnt that from me. Foxy put fresh straw in the box and straightened out his basket and before you could blink, he had jumped in and settled himself down for a good snooze. Soon he was snoring and grunting like the best of them.

So, if you’ll excuse me now, I must go and do my rounds…

In the last few days we have given two interviews – one for the Kronen newspaper and the other for Hitradio Ö3. The article in the Kronen from 15th August 2009 read as follows:

Giant pig on the Linzer Landstraße – Animal campaigners like student Lisa Pfleger (20) from Linz hope that the giant pig will draw attention to intensive pig farming in Austria. Activists are accompanying two piglets with a video camera, Jackpot lives at an animal sanctuary while his brother X15 leads a miserable existence in an intensive pig farm – in six months he will be slaughtered. Pedestrians decide for themselves which life is better.

The interview and photo-shooting took place on Friday 14th August. Then there was a call from Hitradio Ö3, asking me to give them an interview. The shortened version of what turned out to be a very long interview went on air on the Saturday evening. Hitradio Ö3 gave us the following recording of the interview (German only):

On Tuesday 11th August 2009 we received an email from YouTube saying that our video showing the castration of piglets without anaesthetic had been deactivated because it didn’t comply with the YouTube community guidelines. We could only find one guideline that could lead to a video being deactivated:

Don’t post videos showing bad stuff like animal abuse, drug abuse, under-age drinking and smoking, or bomb making.

On one hand, we are glad to see that YouTube shares our opinion that the conditions shown in our film amount to animal abuse. On the other hand, castrating piglets without anaesthetic is allowed in Austria, Germany and the USA. Our film shows a totally legal practice, routinely carried out in pig farming.

We are trying to get in touch with Google directly (YouTube is a Google owned company) on the phone, but as yet, we haven’t had any luck getting through. It leaves a nasty taste in the mouth to think that a scene showing an absolutely legal practice should be deactivated.

We need your help!

Because we don’t seem to be getting anywhere, we need your help. If you know anyone who is familiar with reactivating deactivated YouTube films, then please let us know! If you have any ideas yourself, then please contact us via Twitter, Facebook or leave a comment for us here.

When we have any news, you’ll see it here first. We’ll keep you posted.

Here is the film currently deactivated on YouTube:
