The Fattening

The longest part of a pig’s life is spent just eating and growing. These highly sensitive creatures are unable to do much more in such an environment. Digging up roots, exploring or just wallowing – none of this is possible in modern intensive pig farms. It would in fact be normal behaviour for pigs – but it does not have any financial benefit, since it would not make the pig grow any faster. It is therefore not an option.

But what do these pigs do for months on end? Locked up in pig sheds, often living on top of their own excrement – with a sense of smell that is far more developed than our own.

We will watch, take pictures and, using the camera, offer you some insight into day-to-day life and the problems experienced during this phase of a pig’s life
